In 2010, Kaiser optical workers made the mistake of getting trapped in NUHW. They’ve struggled ever since to get a contract, missing out on thousands of dollars in raises that their Kaiser co-workers got guaranteed with SEIU-UHW. Due to the inability to settle a contract, Kaiser has been able to implement healthcare and pension cuts as well.
On Aug. 27, 2015, workers filed for an election to vote out NUHW and join SEIU-UHW. Knowing they would lose, NUHW filed to block the election, taking away workers’ right to choose to join their co-workers in SEIU-UHW.
